Thankfully, to no avail.ĭouglas came back to dominate the ninth, and finally, administered the coup de grace in round 10.Īs Buster blinded Tyson with yet another flurry of jabs, he fired not a right hand over the top as he had been doing for nine rounds – but a right uppercut underneath. Later, the powers-that-be – hoping to preserve Tyson’s cash cow status - would claim that Buster hadn’t beaten the count. Slamming the canvas in frustration with his glove, Douglas found his feet, and the bell saved him.
It caught Buster right on the chin, and he promptly dropped onto the canvas, onto his backside. And then Tyson found his opening.Īs Douglas attacked, Tyson - his back on the ropes - landed a jolting right uppercut that was thrown with unadulterated desperation. The beating shockingly continued through round eight. By the fifth round, Tyson was being treated like a sparring mate. His movement was making Tyson a stationary target, unable to block incoming bombs or muster a meaningful offense. Now, that jab was setting up right hands and left hooks and combinations. Instead of slowing down, though, Douglas picked up the pace.
And Douglas would be sent packing back to Columbus, Ohio. Rest assured, though, Tyson would roar in round two. When the first round ended, most were shocked that Douglas had actually won it.
